Dementia Take Action Be a Grateful Caregiver

How can I have a good attitude when I am a caregiver?

Attitudes

Thoughts

Take action

Take charge of your thoughts

You can make it a good day or not

Focus on goals

Focus on what you can accomplish

Focus on baby steps

Be thankful to be a caregiver

enjoy the moments

take time to find something to celebrate look in the mirror let yourself know you are worth it

while you’re looking in the mirror smile and say, “you’re a great person”

“you’re exceptional”

Engage with your loved one

take time

do you know that you are wonderful

go outside

smile, get some sun

take a walk

call a friend

if you’re having negative thoughts, change them

you are in control of the way you feel

you are in control of what you do

You cannot control what your loved ones do but you can control the way you react to it

Have a great day

Tonight I cried in front of my dad. I feel bad but he showed so many emotions when he saw me crying. He asked me to call my sister. He talked to her. Then he told me to be strong and keep my head up. That’s what my dad used to tell me all of the time when I was younger. I had my real dad back if only for a few minute. He then said he was ready to shave. It’s nighttime and he never shaved at night before. I warmed the bathroom with the small heater and helped him shave. My tears dwindled and I felt good about the few minutes I shared with my dad. He even showered.

We took my dad to an animal auction for an hour. It’s something different and my dad enjoyed it.

I enjoy reading in my spare time, and even though it is not a lot of time, I read about Dementia. I write some book reviews and blog about my daily activities with my dad. I am not a professional caregiver just a daughter who is learning tricks, tips, and ways to care for my dad as we travel through time with this memory-robbing disease. I am always in need of a book to read. Please let me know if you have a 5 star book to recommend.
