Best Sites to Visit in CENTRAL Portugal
Have you visited the walkways at Cerro da Candosa yet??
These amazing walkways were completed in February 2022 and offer spectacular views across the valley of the river Ceira, in the municipality of Gois
There are also many local legends associated with this viewpoint, on which the Chapel of Senhora da Candosa also stands...
The walkways are 600 meters long and comprise 450 steps, which is a small price to pay to be rewarded with those views

Daredevil activities in Portugal
Wooden Walkways over the canyon and around the mountain
The walkways cross a rocky gorge, which ends in a river canyon, known as Cabril or Portas do Ceira, where the Ceira River, a tributary of the Mondego, appears to have cut across a rocky ridge. This is a place that, according to Alberto Machado, has a lot of potential for extreme sports, such as abseiling or climbing.
In June, from the 6th to the 12th, the walkways will host the 1st International Festival of Slacklines (balancing on ropes), with the participation of around 200 participants, 90% of whom are foreigners. According to the mayor, 15 ropes of different sizes will be mounted, some with a width of 2.5 centimeters, allowing visitors to watch along the entire course of the walkways.

When to visit the Wooden Walkways
Avoid rainy days because the stairs can be slippery
Avoid hot summer afternoons because there is little shade
In the summer, you can go for some refreshing dips in the wild river beach of Cabril do Ceira or in the fantastic river beaches of Góis (Peneda Fluvial Beach and Pego Escuro Fluvial Beach), which are among the best river beaches in Central Portugal (Penacova is my favorite)

L O N G E S T PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE in Portugal
The 516 Bridge PORTUGAL The 516 Arouca Bridge is the largest pedestrian suspension bridge in Europe and is located in Arouca, in the Aveiro district, Portugal next to the famous Passadiços do Paiva. It is approximately 1 hour south of Porto. Getting there can be a challenge since there are no direct roads or highways to get there. We were on small local roads with lots of bends, turns and twists. There are little or no signs telling us which way to go to get there. Be patient, the climb and challenge to get there was well worth the trip. We parked at the top of a hill and walked down a steep cobblestone hill, winding around a small town and arrived at the bridge. There are no stores or shops to buy anything.
The Name
With 516 meters in length and an elevation of 175 meters, it connects the banks of the Paiva River. Crossing the bridge, you will have a breathtaking view over Garganta do Paiva and Cascata das Aguieiras, both geosites of the UNESCO Arouca Geopark territory. Why is the name 516 bridge? The poles from mountain to mountain stretching across the river is 516 meters long.
The Experience
Waiting for our turn to enter the bridge made me feel nervous and a bit anxious. I started to wonder if I should change my mind and not take the adventure. The guide opened the gated door and we entered as a group. It was longer than I imagined. It was narrow. It had a bottom with small openings that you could see through. I walked across the bridge slowly while my legs shook and I took a few deep breaths. I was nervous but felt a sense of thrill as my adventure began. My husband walked across the galvanized steel bridge with ease. Hearing the river flowing beneath us was exciting. I told myself not to look down but I looked anyway. We were high above the noisy river and you could see rocks, boulders, water, and bubbles when you looked down. I stopped a few times to clear my throat and gather my balance.
VERY IMPORTANT
YOU M U S T purchase tickets via the internet and reserve a time to cross the bridge. The guided trips in English and Portuguese are every hour and last 40 minutes. Tours can start on either side of the bridge. You cannot wear heels. Bring a sweater, it gets windy.
Bring water, there is nowhere to purchase anything. No bathrooms either. The bridge is extremely remote. We drove around on very small side roads for hours.

Paths of Faith
The Paths of Santiago and Fatima will allow you to see small villages, walk the old roads, eat local delicacies, touch nature, feel the pride of Portugal, see mountainous landscapes, and surround yourself with the religious freedom enjoyed by so many people.
The Portuguese Way of Santiago de Compostela extends from south to north traveling through small towns that welcome travelers with open arms selling local wine, honey, bread, and treats. Each stage of the Path is different and should be traveled at its own pace. The end of the journey will delight you with an arrival at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela which was built in the burial place of the Apostle Santiago.
Paths of Fatima allow the walker to travel through rural towns embracing the scenery and peace of the area. As you enter the final destination, the Basilica, an immense feeling of calm and tranquility come over you. Your body feels relaxed, your breathing slows down, and you sense the spiritual atmosphere of the open area. You look around and see people praying, crawling around the Chapel, holding the rosary, kneeling in the Church, walking toward the candle area, standing still, and talking in other languages, at this moment you feel part of the universe. You can feel the Lady's arms embrace your body and give you peace.
